NHS Career

Dr Laura Stewart RD qualified from Queen Margaret College (now University), Edinburgh in 1983. She then worked for over 25 years in a variety of roles as a dietitian for NHS Lothian.

She moved to work for NHS Tayside in 2009 first as the Team Lead for the Paediatric Overweight Service Tayside, then as the Manager for the combined paediatric and adult multi-disciplinary weight management team.

Concluding her NHS career as one of NHS Tayside’s Nutrition & Dietetic Services Leads with direct management responsibility for the tier 3 & tier 2 Adult Weight Management Service, the Paediatric Healthy Weight service and the dietetic team of the Tayside Diabetes Service.

Professional Adviser

Dr Laura rounded off her career in public service by working for two years as a Professional Adviser to the Scottish Government. She was responsible for working closely with Scottish Health Boards and key partners to help implement A Healthier Future: Framework for the Prevention, Early Detection and Early Intervention of Type 2 Diabetes in Scotland.

PHD

Laura Stewart RD gained her PhD in 2008 from the Medical Faculty of the University of Glasgow. Her thesis was entitled Randomised Controlled Trial of a Novel Dietetic Treatment for Childhood Obesity and a Qualitative Study of Parents’ Perceptions of Dietetic Treatment.
